ABOUT US

The story behind Lightup Impact

We are an online community of 100 early-stage locally led non-profits, also known as grassroots organizations,  in gender & health in East Africa.

We support our member organizations with networking, trust-based partnerships and skills development to increase their visibility and long-term sustainability.

ABOUT US

The Challange We Face

Grassroots organizations are locally-led non-profit organizations who tackle the roots of societal problems in the communities they originate from (Patel 2019). Lack of integration into national and regional development policies, lack of support networks, and lack of visibility and credibility to secure funding are among the main impediments to their growth especially during their startup stage (NCBOC 2022).

MISSION

Our unique Approach

At Lightup Impact we generate evidence-based solutions to increase the impact, and sustainable development of our grassroots members in gender & health in East Africa. We empower our members to become sustainable through peer-to-peer support, networking, trust-based partnerships, and capacity building. As we believe in a bottom-up approach to development, we co-create and co-implement solutions together with our founders.

Lightup Impact has exposed us to a lot of things as an organization, we were struggling with resource mobilization which they taught us. Previously, we only knew fundraising now we know friendraising.

When I first heard of Lightup Impact, I was more than willing to join the community in order to learn, interact, network with other big and small organizations. It helps young social changemakers get the visibility they deserve.

I am a beneficiary of this lovely community, and as a founder, I feel safe, inspired & motivated by their dedication to seeing us thrive & that's why I always keep encouraging other young grassroots nonprofit founders to positively take advantage of opportunities being offered by them.
