Meet Our New Members – December 2023

We are pleased to announce 11 new grassroots leaders from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda joining the Lightup Impact community in December 2023.

 

These organizations are dedicated to driving positive change in the fields of mental health, women’s empowerment, uplifting vulnerable groups, health, and education. 

 

Each member brings invaluable local insights and expertise, driving social change and making a lasting impact.

 

We appreciate the trust and confidence placed in our community and look forward to embarking on this journey with you.

Kenya

Support Beyond Boundary Lightup Impact Member
Founder: Darlene Akinyi

Support Beyond Boundary provides motivational talks, counseling, and treatment programs to the community.

Community Voices Network Lightup Impact Member
Founder: Ritah Anindo Obonyo

Community Voices Network is a youth-led organization that focuses on health, education, and the livelihoods of people in urban informal settlements. Their community-based advocacy efforts and case management help address systemic issues like poverty. They support 51 students with their education mentorship program and distribute resources to vulnerable populations through their livelihood program.

Ngao Inclusive Hub Lightup Impact Member
Founder: Lukas Mbai

Ngao Inclusive Hub empowers members of the community to make informed decisions by providing them with accurate and up-to-date information.

Center for Wellness CBO Lightup Impact Member
Program Coordinator: David Ogutu

The Center for Wellness CBO  is a community-based organization founded in 2021 to raise awareness about mental health issues. Their goal is to create a culturally competent and safe space where people can discuss their emotions and mental health status. They humanize mental health, increase awareness, and eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health and illness through advocacy, research, and providing links to healthcare services.

AbleRise Africa Society Lightup Impact Member
Founder: Josephine Mwende Kamene

AbleRise Africa Society supports the idea of ensuring that people with disabilities are able to exercise their rights and enjoy them to the fullest.

Uganda

Wezesha Girls Network Uganda Lightup Impact Member
Founder: Hope Nankunda

Wezesha Girls Network Uganda promotes gender equality by empowering girls to stay in school and complete their education. Additionally, they provide platforms for girls and young women to share their stories and experiences to inspire future generations. Furthermore, they advocate for an end to childhood sexual violence by promoting prevention, healing, and justice for survivors.

Smile Always Foundation-SAUF Lightup Impact Member
Founder: Muhindo Joel

Smile Always Uganda Foundation advocates for gender equality, focusing on improving lives and communities. Their efforts include protecting women’s rights and promoting their health, as well as offering training programs at all levels.

Dwona Initiative Lightup Impact Member
Founder Lizza Kawooya

Dwona Initiative is a nonprofit that empowers girls and women by removing obstacles to education, promoting entrepreneurship, and creating safe spaces. Their goal is to amplify their voices in all areas of development.

Vision for Children and Youth Forum (VICHYF) Lightup Impact Member
Founder: Ochan Geofrey

Vision for children and youth forum (VICHYF) is a nonprofit founded by university students from Amuru District in Northern Uganda. They support vulnerable groups to live responsible lives, addressing several challenges, including high dropout rates among girls, infringement on children’s rights, unemployment among young people, poor access to healthcare, limited access to sexual and reproductive health and rights, family planning, and economic assets.

Rwanda

Women Gain Rwanda Lightup Impact Member
Founder: Francine Ingabire

Women Gain Rwanda’s mission is to promote gender equality and women’s participation in leadership. They empower women and girls through training programs on leadership, digital literacy, entrepreneurship networking, and do other community well-being initiatives.

Tazania

Winners of Hope Lightup Impact Member
Founder: Winnfridahope Mgalega

Winners of Hope acts as a bridge between people with disabilities and health services, ensuring that people living with disabilities have access to sustainable health services. They also use practical laws to promote and defend the fundamental human rights of people with disabilities. In addition, they are working towards creating training and business opportunities for people with disabilities and strongly believe that disability is not inability.
